I Could So Live Like This!!
Dee Williams sold her 1,500 square foot home in Portland, Oregon a couple years ago and built by herself this 84 square foot home to live in. It is the size of a parking space. It's on wheels and can be pulled by a pickup. Right now she lives in the back yard of some very good friends who provide a shower and water - two things she does not have. (Those two things I would have to have if I were to live like this.)Dee has no mortgage. Her house cost only $10,000 to build and her utility bills are only $6 a month in the winter.
What appeals to me is the small space. I have always loved little houses and small spaces. I've never been one for material possessions. I have minimalistic tendencies. After all my years of having to fit all my worldly goods in one suitcase, I could so easily do this.

Doesn't it look like fun? Maybe someday I'll buy myself a little cabin in the woods and live out my dream :)
Notice her bed up in the loft area. I don't think there is electricity. One could piece and quilt by hand then. This is so ME! Read more about it here.

Thanks for providing the link. I saw it on yahoo mail, but it was a video link there...
I saw something similar once - where you could buy the home (if you lived with in X miles of the factory, or you could buy the "parts" and assemble it yourself/hire someone, or i think you could even get blue prints.
Another thing that i saw that is in line with this was a home made out of one (or 2) of those boxes that they put on trains - complete with a shower... (I saw it on HGTV)
I like small but this is a bit to small. I saw the story on the news the other night. It certainly is interesting. My long arm would not fit though.
It wasy she has two solar panels and a battery for her electricity, but I don't imagine it would power enough for a sewing machine. No room to use it anyway.
More power to you - I could never get by with something like this.
wow, that's the anti-me. Where would I put all my books, DVDs, fabric, quilts, stuff, cats.... aaagh.I did see an item about this on CNN though. I love the idea of having the solar batteries and low cost.
Thanks for sharing this story. Very impressive the change in her heart that stuck.
I quoted you! :)
